It’s that time of year again, everyone. With graduation over and the spring term upon us, it’s time to look back on the year that was in BYU social media.
The Golden Hashtags are our annual awards in which we recognize the best in social media over the past calendar year from across campus. Now in our fifth year of doing this, it’s been fascinating to see the different successes each year and to see how the quality of content improves so much every year. An awards show is held, prizes are given, a Tumblr is compiled, but most importantly, this gives us all an opportunity to look back and recognize what’s been working in our own areas and to be inspired and gain ideas from seeing what’s been working for other groups on campus.
Past award categories have included:
- Best social media campaign
- Best mission-oriented post (advancing your group's mission or the university's mission)
- Best social innovation
- Best response to a comment addressed to your account
- Most improved social media presence
- Most persuasive content (persuading users to take action in real life)
- Best use of humor
- Best creation/use of social media reports
- Most epic post
- Best use of timing in a post
- Best reference to BYU culture
- Best content curation
- Best use of user-generated content
- Best engagement with your followers
- Best use of data
- Best use of influencers
- Best collaboration
So there are a lot of categories. A lot of opportunities for everyone to get an award.
You can submit entries for as many or as few categories as you’d like. Or if you’ve got something that’s really good, but don’t know what category it would fit in, that’s totally fine as well. Please still send that it. The main thing is that we want to see your very best content from this past year. We’ll find a slot for it. If it’s really phenomenal, we might even create a new category for it. :)
The easiest way to submit your content is just to send direct links to the individual posts you want to showcase. Please email them to firstname.lastname@example.org. Feel free to include a quick note for some context, if needed, explaining why the posts were especially successful.
We’ll accept anything from your social accounts posted between May 1, 2016 and May 1, 2017. Let’s shoot for a submission deadline of May 15. We’ll have a panel of judges review the submissions, and then we’ll announce the award winners on June 2.
